Description
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside complex produced by fermentation of Micromonospora purpurea or M. echinospora. It is used as the sulfate salt.
- Ready to use solution
Applications
Gentamicin acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome leading to inhibition protein synthesis and death in susceptible bacteria. Gentamicin is effective against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is used for the prevention of bacterial contamination on cell cultures. Antimicrobial spectrum: Includes Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including strains resistant to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, kanamycin and colistin, particularly strains of Pseudomonas, Proteus, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.
Gentamicin sulfate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used as a selection agent (gentamicin-resistance gene) in molecular biology and cell culture applications. This product is formulated to contain 50 mg/mL Gentamicin in deionized water and is recommended for use in eukaryotic cell culture at a volume of 1 milliliter per liter.
