Neutral Red Solution, 3.33 g/L
Description
Neutral Red Solution is also known as Basic Red 5, C.I. 50040, toluylene red, or 3-amino-7-dimethyl amino-2-methylphenazine HCl.
This formulation of neutral red contains 3.33 g/L of the cationic neutral red dye.
Applications
Histology: Neutral red is commonly used in histological staining applications. (Cell Staining Protocol and Gram Staining Protocol)
Virology: The neutral red solution is also used in the plaque assay for the quantification of infectious particles by quantifying the plaques formed in cell culture following infection with serial dilutions of an infectious sample. (Plaque Assay Protocol)
Cytology: The neutral red solution application extends to the assessment of cell proliferation and cytotoxicity in the neutral red uptake assay used to quantify the number of viable cells in culture. (Neutral Red Uptake (NRU) Assay)
